Christopher Nolan’s profound adaptation of Homer’s epic, The Odyssey, is currently the talk of Hollywood. After earning near-perfect reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie sailed onto global screens last weekend and immediately won over global audiences. In less than a week, after already scoring Nolan’s highest opening in his career so far, The Odyssey has earned almost $350 million and looks set to be the director’s third billion-dollar movie, after The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
But before everyone was discussing the pluck of a bow or some incredibly practical pig transformations, the world was fixated on the most impressive horror sensation of the century. Of course, we’re talking about Focus Features’ Obsession, the poignant viral hit that provided a platform for former YouTuber Curry Barker to showcase his clear directorial talent. Earning near-perfect praise from most, this skin-crawling reminder of the importance of consent is already earning Oscars buzz.
Much of this buzz is being awarded to Inde Navarrette for her star-making performance as Nikki Freeman, which Collider’s Hannah Hunt called “one of the year’s best” performances in her review. Hunt also added that the film was a “tightly constructed psychological thriller supported by phenomenal performances, disciplined storytelling, excellent sound design, and an atmosphere of constant emotional suffocation.” Following its box office triumph, Obsession has continued its success on the streaming charts, officially ranking as the most-watched movie on Peacock for the past six days.
“After breaking the mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.”
Obsession is available to stream on Peacock now. Stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming updates.
